Overview
I. Background
In July 1967, Taipei City was restructured as a special municipality. In addition to its original ten administrative districts, it incorporated the neighboring districts of Neihu, Nangang, Shilin, Beitou, Jingmei, and Muzha from Taipei County, bringing the total population to 1,525,556. To meet the growing water demand of city residents, the Taipei Regional Waterworks Construction Commission initiated the Phase II Construction Program.
II. Objectives and Benefits
The target year for the Program was 1971, with the goal of increasing the daily output by 200,000 CMD to enhance the water supply capacity in the greater Taipei area.
III. Service Population and Water Demand
Upon completion, the Program would bring the total daily water output to 560,000 CMD, serving a population of 1,550,000 people.
IV. Scope
The Phase II Construction was completed in 1971. Major works included the addition of a new 200,000 CMD water treatment facility at the Chanchu Mountain Water Purification Plant, construction of a sedimentation weir on the Xindian River, and the installation of a 620 HP raw water pump at the original raw water pumping station (now located within the Gongguan Water Purification Plant). The Program also involved laying 2.3 kilometers of new raw water pipelines, 17 kilometers of transmission and distribution pipelines, and the addition of several deep wells to alleviate local water shortages.
