Scope:

　　The Feitsui Raw Water Tunnel Project involves constructing a diversion weir and intake facility on the Beishi River downstream of Feitsui Reservoir. Raw water will be conveyed via a tunnel through Zhitan Mountain to the vicinity of the downstream Chukeng Weir, where it will connect to Taipower’s Chukengtou Waterway and continue to Taipei Water Department’s No. 2 Diversion Structure, leading to the Zhitan Water Purification Plant. The system has a designed intake capacity of 2.7 million CMD. The key components are as follows:

1.Intake Facilities: Including a river weir, desilting sluiceway, intake structure, and stilling basin.

2.Tunnel Works: A raw water tunnel measuring 2,766 meters in length, with an inner diameter of 4.5 meters.

3.Outlet Structure: Including an outlet shaft, energy dissipation basin, and connection structures to the Chukengtou Waterway.

4.Mechanical Equipment: Including two sluice gates for the desilting sluiceway, two regulating gates, one emergency gate, and two outlet gates.

Benefits:

1.To enhance the resilience of the Greater Taipei Area’s water supply in response to climate change, the project constructs new intake facilities and a transmission tunnel on the Beishi River downstream of Feitsui Reservoir. During periods of heavy rainfall and high turbidity, this dedicated pipeline will draw lower-turbidity water from the reservoir directly to the Zhitan Water Purification Plant for treatment, optimizing the high-turbidity intake management system.

2.Aligned with the Executive Yuan's water supply initiatives such as the “Banxin Regional Water Supply Improvement Programt” and the “String of Pearls Program,” this project will strengthen water dispatch stability across Greater Taipei, Taoyuan, and Hsinchu, ease the burden on Shimen Reservoir, ensure uninterrupted supply during typhoons and heavy rains, and enhance overall water allocation efficiency in northern Taiwan.
